Welcome to Elenay Creation’s Vegas Poker Version 2.1. The most Comprehensive Tutor for the Video Poker machines of Las Vegas and Atlantic City available either in ShareWare or Comercial for the Macintosh Computer System!
This document was written to try to get you started playing “Vegas Poker” in as short a time as possible. While the complete instructions ARE included within Vegas Poker itself, there is sometimes confusion as to how to get things going and what exactly are ALL THOSE FILES for!
To begin with, the ONLY files required to run “Vegas Poker” is the file named “Vegas Poker”. If you want, everything else in the “Vegas Poker Kit” folder can be dragged to the trash. But, before you do that, let me tell you what those files are…
• “ShowVegasPoker” and “ShowElenayCreations are Startup Extensions (INIT files) that display their respective Logos on your screen during System Startup! These files will only work if they are placed in your System Folder ( Extensions Folder in System 7 ). There are NO “INIT Conflicts” created by these files and NO extra memory is used by your System file because once the Logo is displayed the entire file is purged from memory! I included “ShowVegasPoker” and “ShowElenayCreations” because they’re short and I thought they were cute.
• “Vegas Poker Set” is a Font Suitcase. It contains the “Vegas Poker Font”. This font took me very many hours to create exclusivly for “Vegas Poker”. After I was finished with it, I found I had created an exceptional Graphics Font that could be used ANYWHERE I wanted to include Standard Playing Cards! You are welcome to add this font to your own font collection and use to your hearts content! I do ask though, if you choose to use the “Vegas Poker Font” in your own FreeWare or ShareWare Programs, that you be a registered user of “Vegas Poker” (the full $29ºº to include updates). To use this font in a Comercial package, please call me to discuss a One-Time licensing fee.
• “Vegas Poker Type Demo” is a MicroSoft Word® document demonstrating the use of “Vegas Poker Set” in your own documents. The “Vegas Poker Font” is arranged in a puzzle like fashion, and does not always make sense as to where the different characters are located. I suggest you use a font peeking utility ( I highly recomend the ShareWare utility “PopChar” by Günther Blaschek ) to assemble your cards.
• There may be another folder included in your “Vegas Poker Kit” called “Extras”. If so, Please read the “Read Me…” files included therein.
Now on to the explaination of “Vegas Poker” itself…
When you first run “Vegas Poker” you will be presented with the Elenay™ Creations Startup Screen depicting Sunrise Moutain behind my home.
At near dawn a dialog will display, informing you that your copy of “Vegas Poker” has not been registered yet and you have twenty plays left. This number decreases by one each time you Open the Stack “Vegas Poker”. With each play, you are allowed to play for an unlimited time.
At the bottom of the dialog are three buttons, “Not Now”, “Register!” and “Print Order Form” to respond to the plea to Register. I have highlighted the “Not Now” button, because I assume that you will want to try out “Vegas Poker” before registering. Simply press the Return key to bypass this dialog.
The next screen will display various panels to set up your Poker Machine:
This first panel selects from the seven Machines available. The inset button depicts the currently selected machine (In this case it is “Progressive Jackpot”.
This panel is for enabling “Bonus Poker”. This is a fairly new addition to the Las Vegas machines. It gives the player, after a win, the option to attempt to double there winnings (at an extremly high risk!).
In the upper left corner of the screen is a totaly inacurate depiction of the Elenay™ Home. As in most HyperCard® Stacks, a “Home” button quits the stack and returns the user to their “Home” Stack.
In the upper right corner of the screen is a small cartoon balloon. Clicking on this will display the “About” dialog. One of the options in this dialog is to display the Instructions for “Vegas Poker”. PLEASE select this before continuing, as it does give a VERY detailed explaination for using “Vegas Poker” to it's full potential!
Above the “Instructions” field will appear this “Printer” button. Use this to create a print out of the instructions. This would allow you to sit down in your easy chair and read them at your leasure!
Also above the “Instructions” field is a “Register!” button. This is to give you another oportunity to enter your registration code or print out the order form. Once the correct registration code has been entered this button will vanish from the face of your Macintosh!
After you've read or printed the instructions, simply click anywhere within the “Instructions” field to return to the Setup Screen. Select your favorite Machine by pressing it’s corisponding button.
To begin with, I recomend that you disable the “Bonus Poker” option until you’re familiar with the basic machine. To do this simply press the “ON” button to change it to “OFF”.
As you probably noticed, the “Joker” talked to you when you first entered this screen and his lips probably didn’t sync with what he said (Kinda reminicent of the old Japanese Monster Movies, huh?). This is because I couldn't figure out an effective way to determine the speed of any particular Macintosh. I have given you the ability to adjust the speed at which the Joker moves his lips. While holding down the “Option” key, click on the Jokers mouth. You will be presented with the following dialog:
Enter a number from 0 to 255. The higher the number, the slower the Jokers lips move. Start with small numbers and work up to find the right sync. Mac Plus users, Zero is as fast as the lips can move. Sorry! (Maybe consider an accelerator!)
Once everything is set up, choose the coin denomination you wish to play with. You will be given 200 coins of whichever coin you select, so it really makes no difference which you choose! If you want to feel like a High Roller, select the Five Dollar Coin, giving you $2000ºº to throw away!
This is your initial game screen. As you can see, a Royal Flush is dealt first. This hand is for display purposes only and in no way will effect your future plays! When you move the “Hand” pointer over the coin slot, it will be holding a small coin. This indicates that the machine is ready to accept coins. Click your mouse to deposit the coin, and wait for the hand to hold another coin before depositing futher coins.
After you’ve deposited five coins (or pressed the “Deal/Draw” button with fewer coins), a hand will be dealt. If the “Tutor” is on (as indicated by the “Clover Leaf” button in the upper right corner), the borders of the “Hold/Cancel” buttons below the cards you should keep will be highlighted.
Pressing on the “Clover Leaf” button now will display an explaination (on top of the “Pot” field) as to why those particular cards should be held. You are not required to follow the “Tutor”s recomendations (you may feel you have a chance at a more risky play!). Simply click on the “Hold/Cancel” buttons below the cards you wish to keep. If you make a mistake, click again on the same (now highlighted) button to cancel your selection.
To disable (or re-enable) the “Tutor”, just click on the “Clover Leaf” button between games (while “Play Five Coins” is displayed).
This should be enough to get you started. If you’ve got any questions, please read the “Instructions” from the “Selections” screen.
A NOTE ABOUT SHAREWARE:
I have spent over a year in the development of “Vegas Poker” to design the best and most comprehensive tool for learning to play Video Poker Machines. Granted, I began this project as a selfish attempt to teach myself the “Tricks” of winning at this game! I discovered though, after creating the simulation, that there are NO tricks except the Mathamatical Probabilities of what will be dealt next! So I incorporated the equasions into “Vegas Poker” to learn to recognize the patterns of the various plays quickly, without having to make all those calculations after each hand is dealt. I beleve, this product has turned out to be a masterpiece of design. Now enough with tooting my own horn.
After developing “Vegas Poker”, I realized, if I were to distribute the Un-Protected Version, very few would ever pay the ShareWare Fee (I have recieved only one ‘partial’ registration from ALL my prevoius ShareWare products and that was because a Hard Drive crashed losing the original!). So I developed a Demo sceme for a HyperCard® Stack!
“Vegas Poker” will operate fine 20 times before the “Tutor” and Win calculations become dissabled. Once your registration is paid and I return your Registration Code (within a week!), “Vegas Poker” will function an unlimited number of times! Any future versions will automaticaly recognize that the registration code has already been entered, and should never request it again.
I am currently working on version 3.0 of “Vegas Poker” which will be an Application instead of a HyperCard® Stack and support Color! With its release, the price will definatly increase. If you’ve already paid the registration, you will NOT have to pay again for the next version! (If you pay the $10ºº for Upgrades, I will even send a disk with the new version directly to your home!)
